Erbaluce di Caluso: the wine of the legend of Queen Ypa, the wine of an ancient land.
In Canavese, in the north of Piedmont, the vines have characterized this open-air museum for centuries, where wines have a long history and whose legacy survives in the grapes grown today. In the heart of these lands is the company Vitivinicola Santa Clelia, located in Mazzè at a height of 300 meters above s.l., always dedicated its business solely to the cultivation of vines with a strong focus on nature and environment.
“Our Food, Our Planet, Our Future!” – the slogan of Slow Food and Terra Madre – has always been the idea followed by the company and today the entire production is subject to certified organic practices.
On an area of about 8 hectares, the Erbaluce vine is mainly planted, from whose grapes the famous DOCG. Dry white wine, Erbaluce di Caluso is offered in two labels: Ypa and Essenthia, the latter produced with a different process to better maintain the primary flavors of the grape. The real gem is the Caluso Passito DUS, always obtained from Erbaluce grapes placed in drying on racks from September to February and, after fermentation, aged in oak barrels for at least 4 years. Versatile grape variety, it lends itself to refermentation with the production of Erbaluce Spumante Rigore Classic Method.
The company also produces DOC Canavese Rosso according to the Canavese tradition with mixed blends of Barbera, Freisa and Bonarda in the Palere and Rox labels with aging in oak barrels.
