VI International Festival of Mediterranean Cuisine
Today, as the Covid-19 pandemic has revealed to us, the development model of Western society opens its faults to disease, climate change and loss of biological and socio-economic resources. The Mediterranean diet in this sad context deserves to be increasingly considered as a political tool for a new socio-economic development model for the Mediterranean Region, given its new strategic dimension for agriculture, fisheries, environment, food security, nutrition, sustainable development, environmental risks and climate change.
In the tenth anniversary of its inscription on UNESCO’s intangible cultural heritage lists, the Mediterranean diet is increasingly questioning us about socio-economic, cultural and environmental responsibilities and common political action in this strategic region of the world. In order to start again from the Mediterranean – the epicentre of international disorder – and to rebuild a common future. For a new model of global society: for a reconciliation between the North and the South of Europe, the Mediterranean and the World. Because the Mediterranean Region represents the second biodiversity in the world only after the Amazon and a third of humanity’s food production comes from the Mediterranean.
