For the launch of Terra Madre Salone del Gusto, our relay around the world begins in Asia and Oceania, where we confront the greatest problem that humanity has ever faced: the environmental and climate crisis.

Though the world has been firmly focused on the Covid-19 pandemic in recent months, as well as the economic crisis which it has provoked, the real threat to humanity and the environmental crisis, which amplifies and intensifies all others. A crisis of existential proportions, and yet paradoxically, one we tend to push to the back of our minds. This is where we need to change course, to change the situation before its too late.

How can we transform a model of development that generates environmental and social disasters, eroding our precious natural capital? To confront the crisis we have the answer: biodiversity, in every sense of the word: from the invisible level of bacteria and microorganisms to plant and animal species and the diversity of human knowledge and cultures. Our proposal is more relevant and urgent than ever.
