Food is a prism through which we can observe the world, and the most effective tool for transforming it. It’s happened before, changing our geography and our living spaces, and it continues to happen today.

Though the role of food is so central, it—together with other essential common goods like water and air—has lost importance in our daily lives just as it has in our politics, being taken for granted in a society focused on well-being. Restarting from food to change the places we live—starting with urban areas, where more than half the world’s population lives and which consume the majority of resources—is an urgent necessity.

We confront the theme with Carolyn Steel, architect and author of Sitopia: how food can save the world, which offers a provocative vision of progress and the changes we need to enact in order to prosper on our overcrowded, overheated planet.

The Food Talks are new and freely accessible format of Terra Madre Salone del Gusto: ten minutes for our guests to explore their thoughts on the world we live in, and the future we want for it. The full Food Talk with Carolyn Steel will be released on October 9.
