The farmers’ market in Parndorf was the first to join the network of earth markets in Austria and is an important place for the promotion of quality local food.
The Parndorf Earth Market is located less than 50 km from Vienna in Burgenland, the easternmost and flattest province of Austria, very suitable for viticulture, near Lake Neusiedler, on the border with Hungary, Slovenia and Slovakia. Farmers’ agriculture, traditional food crafts and regional diversity of species and varieties are important examples at the Earth Market. The local supply of food from the surrounding area, mainly from organic farming, and transparency towards consumers is more important than ever. The Earth Market brings this theme to life and takes place in the renovated barn of a private house. During the market, information about Slow Food’s philosophy of “good, clean and fair” will be given, and it will be possible to taste products at the stands and participate in the cooking demos.
