Models of urban pollination: screening and tasting of Presidium honeys
The Slow Food community of Metropolitan Pollinators presents the project of social beekeeping.Turin and its peri-urban area have been home to urban beekeeping experiences for at least a century.today there are more than 65 permanent beehives in the urban perimeter of Turin alone; in 2015, 1,294 beekeepers and 22,697 bee colonies were surveyed in the province.
Beekeeping in the urban area is not only a productive activity, but over time it has assumed a social, educational and scientific role.
One of the aims of the community is to promote knowledge of the world of bees and beekeeping for adults and children.
In the evening the documentary “A world in danger” on the world of bees will be screened, highlighting the different approach of producers and the consequences of industrial exploitation for the production of honey. The director takes the viewer on a journey around the world from which the importance of bees emerges. In addition to their direct role in the production of honey, bees have the task of pollinating flowers and plants and ensuring that nature completes its natural cycle.
A tasting of honeys from the Alpine High Mountain Presidium will follow.
