Johan Rockström – Recipe for a green deal: investment, policies and actions

Johan Rockström is the Director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research and Professor of Hydrological Systems and Global Sustainability at the University of Stockholm. He was previously Executive Director of the Stockholm Resilience Center and is one of the foremost global experts on sustainability.

Europe needs a fair and just food system, one that respects ecosystems. Civil society and young people filled the squares and streets of the continent before the pandemic, demanding a better future both for the climate and social justice.

The European Union has responded to these demands with the Farm-to-Fork strategy, part of the European Green Deal, a tool to guide the transition towards a different food system, one that’s more sustainable along every step of the chain, from production to distribution and consumption.

There’s still a lot to do in order make these changes real, and in line with the needs of the planet, starting from a dialog between politics and science, as well as alliances with countries beyond Europe, in order for this Green Deal to bring about concrete changes capable of reducing the impact of the climate crisis.

Food Talks are a new and freely accessible format of Terra Madre Salone del Gusto: ten minutes for our guests to explore their thoughts on the world we live in, and the future we want for it!
