Assemblea Popolare Torino is a civic participation initiative created during the Covid-19 emergency in Turin, starting from the awareness that the city was already at the centre of a series of systemic crises before the lockdown: shortages of work, precarious health conditions, critical and persistent levels of environmental pollution and climate crisis, increasing economic hardship and growing inequalities. These crises have common roots, they must be tackled from a systemic point of view, undertaking new trajectories of development. In order to do so, Assemblea Popoare was born and is proposed as a forum where experts, citizens and associations can together clearly define the pre-existing problems and elaborate concrete proposals to ask local politics to allocate the available economic resources to build a fair and sustainable city. The modalities of thematic confrontation undertaken so far include thematic seminars of experts, moments of civic confrontation open to citizens and the third sector and the elaboration of summary and inclusive documents on the relevant issues, offering an analysis of the problems and an overview of the needs and/or solutions, already in place or potential.
