On October 3rd and 4th, the Gledic convivium will organise a two days event to discover and learn about the Red Ranke plum and its products.
The event “Days of the Red Ranke” will have a cultural-educational and research character. All fruit growers from Serbia who grow Red Ranka but also other autochthonous plant species will be invited to this event. Scientists and experts will be invited to work on the study of old fruits and the protection of biodiversity. The Red Ranke plum is part of the Ark of Taste project and the Gledic Crvena Ranka Plum Rakjia produced with the traditional plum vairiety is a Slow Food Presidium.
On 3rd October, there will be a visit to a distillery in the village of Gledić, a visit to new plantations of Red Ranke and a visit to the Red Ranke nursery. On 4th October panel discussions will be organised to talk about the importance of survival of small family farms as well as the importance of preserving autochthonous varieties to protect biodiversity, with particular emphasis on how food affects climate change and how important it is to use local food products. Panelists would be experts from the Agricultural Institute in Cacak, Agricultural Advisory Services from Kraljevo, and fruit growers. During the event, there will also be a market where producers will be able to exhibit their products and culture to present the artistic and cultural heritage of the Gledić Mountains.
