Everyone has the right to proper nutrition. Everyone should have access to safe, healthy food, to sustainable food, to real food. We should discourage the consumption of ultra-refined foods: all those industrial creations which contribute little to human health and the health of the environment.

Today in Brazil, much like the majority of the world, we’re seeing a constant increase in the consumption of ultra-processed food. It is not a proper nutrition. This can be seen on the global scale, and it’s worrying: the excessive consumption of these products is associated with an increase in chronic non-transmissible diseases like obesity, heart disease, cancer, diabetes and more.
Ana Paula Bortoletto is a researcher and nutritionist at the Center for Epidemiological Research of Nutrition and Health at the University of São Paolo and the Brazilian Institute for Consumer Protection, where she is head of the Healthy Diets program.

The Food Talks are a new and freely accessible format of Terra Madre Salone del Gusto: ten minutes for our guests to explore their thoughts on the world we live in, and the future we want for it. This Food Talk is supported by Reale Mutua.
