The Slow Food Presidia celebrate an important achievement and present their new logo.

The importance of biodiversity has finally been recognized by major international institutions not just in terms of ecosystems, but also regarding our own diet. According to the 2019 FAO report, if we don’t put the brakes on the human-driven erosion of biodiversity fast, our entire food production system will collapse. Slow Food has been saying this for 20 years and working to protect biodiversity by supporting the producers’ communities that safeguard it every day.

The most important tools in this context are The Ark of Taste, an international list of rare food products tied to a specific context, and the Presidia, which involve thousands of food producers worldwide.

We still have a long way to go, but the results so far have been extremely positive: Over 5400 mapped products and 500 Presidia across 160 countries, and a revolutionary narrative labelling project. For all the producers who have participated in this process and signed up to a production protocol aimed at protecting the integrity of their product, we’re providing a new logo: the Slow Food Snail of Approval.
